Lorrie's Note

For the last 24 years, Ogle County Hospice has been providing excellent care to the terminally ill and their families. We strive daily to improve and expand our services, staff knowledge, and volunteers to be sure we are providing the best available care to our patients and their families.

The idea of a Hospice Home was born when one of our dear supporters began thinking forward to a time when she would need care. She looked at her circumstances and her question became, “Who will care for me?” This question will become relevant to many as our County’s population ages. As I researched an answer for her question, I discovered another dimension in Hospice care. There were small, in-patient units connected to hospitals, in-patient Hospice rooms in nursing homes, and a few free-standing Hospice Homes. We pursued the Hospice Home concept with thoughtful research and planning. A feasibility study was conducted with participation from residents across the county.

The Hospice Home will be available for those patients whose needs require another level of pain and symptom management, when family members are not able to provide care, or when caregiver issues necessitate respite care. Meeting the needs of all our patients will always be our highest goal. The Hospice Home is the future of care for patients and families. The need for dedicated, professional, end-of-life services, in an environment totally dedicated to meeting those needs is here. Your support now will make the Hospice Home possible.
